Configure PS3 Media Server for Mac

Ok so, have you downloaded the new PS3 Media server software? Have you got it to work? Or did you get this:

Don’t worry about it , this is how I solved it.

network-choice

First click the ” general configuration” tab. You can select you native language here if you like.

Probably you are running vm-ware or have multiple network port defined and PS3 Media Server selected the wrong port.

Select the port network port that you use. If you are not sure check your mac’s network settings in your system preferences.

In my case I have selected interface ” lo0″ which is the standard interface on my Imac.

After that enter you macs ip-adres in the ” force IP of the server” field. Don’t mess with the port option , you should be fine….

Once that is done save your work.

Restart the http server or just quit and restart to see if the application detects your ps3 now. If not search on you PS3 for media servers. It can take a little while.

If you get this following screen your done:

ps3-found

If you don’t get the screen above something is still wrong.

    what does “en1″ mean? Same for “Io0″

    I tried everything but it still doesnt work.
    p.s. my wi-fi router cant allow upnp but I opend the 5001 port on my macook

    can you show the last few lines in your log or if you have errors before? I can have a look . You can also mail your entire log to my email adres.

    dont bother I solved the problem!
    On my ps3 I had to select the manual ip configuration instead of pppoe (which I use to play online) even if it gives me a dns error it doesnt matter because the connection is only between the computer with the media server and the ps3, not between the ps3 ans the internet

    I’m having the strangest problems. This program works on and off periodically. After readying your post I thought it was related to my local net ip address updating. So I (also an iMac user) set my network prefs to use DHCP with manual address and fixed the ip address of this machine to 192.168.2.200 as the router doesn’t assign in this range. I then made the updates you mentioned in the gen config tab. After this the playstation shows up and works until I close out the program, when I restart no dice. If the IP isn’t changing I can’t figure out what the problem could be. Any suggestions?

    Hey,

    Didn’t get this to work either, as I’m a complete n00b when it comes to networks.

    However, I just decided to switch the PS3 network cable from the little hub I have and put it directly in to my airport.

    Presto.

    Thank you, checky for the article.
    1st I was confused about the ” Force networking on interface”, didn’t know which one to chose. But I finally figured that out. Here how I did it.

    in order to find out what interface ur mac is on:

    open Terminal, then type:

    ifconfig -a

    It should list what interface ur mac is on

    in my case, it listed all 4 of those network interfaces, so I looked for the one that match my Airport IP, which can be found in System Preferences -> Network. In my case, the interface “en1″ matched.

    BTW, I have MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.4

    I’m hoping you can help me. Initially PS3 media server worked intermittently, I fixed the problem after reading this article when I realized my router was assigning a new IP to my IMac. After I forced the IP address (…150) and set the interface to lo0 all was good and then one day, kaput. No connection and I’ve not been able to fix it, I’ve tried everything I can think of. I can ping the PS3 successfully but nothing on the PS3 Media server side and it’s not showing up if I search for media servers on the PS3 side. My log file is as follows:

    For me, selecting “en1″ on a wireless network fixed this issue as per advice given on the office PS3 Media Server forum.

    I have tried what you recommended with no luck. I have forced the ip and the binding. I am using a wireless connection from my mini

    I connected my mac to ps3 media server and everything works fine only when i try to open iTunes, all my folders are showing up. Eg music but then when i go into the music file the album shows up but when i open the album it says ‘there are no title’. And when i open my downloaded Tv shows, they are there but when i play them it comes up with file corrupted. Can you help. I am also very new to this so have no idea :)

    Jess some files types are not supported by the ps3 but i have no issues streaming stuff from my iTunes. Please make sure that you are in the right menu when selecting files on the PS3. You need to select Music and then go to the PS3 media server to play music. Go to video for film etc. If you don’t you will get an error. Hope this helps.
