My Junkyard

Last.fm I’ve seen this application in some profiles of user of different forums I read. Never knowing what last.fm is I tried it. The application is available for several platforms: Windows, Mac and Linux!

What is last.fm according to last.fm:

Last.fm is a service that keeps track of what music you listen to, and then produces a large number of features personalised to you.charts and quilts for your personal site, as well as much more.

You can use Last.fm to listen to music, find out about artists you may like, other people with similar music taste, gigs in your local area,

After the registration,downloading and installing the application it becomes a little unclear. It asked me if I wanted to upload my Itunes library so It could figer out my taste of music.  Ok, let’s try it. After the ok it takes a while for last.fm to generate my music profile(there is a basic profile for you directly) so I decided to wait a day after this. Returning to last.fm I can visit my profile page , nothing special there I think, I can see how many times I’ve played certain songs…nice. But I can also get information of the artists behind the music by just clicking around and play their songs… Hmm, why do that, I have them on my mac?

Ok, in the application I have several options, for some option you have to be a paying member, fine. Maybe I’ll become that if I get this application.

I decide to press the play button. It immediately starts playing a song and it’s not in my Itunes Library. Nice song to. I decided to click the “love this song button”. Next up there is a House/Trance song, click BAN, don’t like that kind of music.

In the preferences you can set how long you want to listen to a song, I decided I wanted the whole song, but you can select a shorter time.

After a while of Banning and loving (you can also skip, when your not loving or hating) I’m starting to understand this application. I get better music everytime and start generating my own personal playlist. The good thing about this is that you also get music you’ve never heard before! Really cool!

 

I’ve never listened to Itunes anymore since I’ve downloaded this application. All kinds of music with great information (see picture above).

Start your own radiostation

This is a paid option, I haven’t tried, but I think it enables you to play your music anywhere around the globe. You can embed it into a website etc. I might try this soon.

If your still reading this and like to listen to music download this. It’s a great even if you don’t use the paid options. There is also an alternative to last.fm, it’s called Iscrobbler 2.1.2. What Iscrobbler got going for itself is that its free, I will write about that soon.  I’ll go intro scrobling then to.
